Alternative School Programs

The following options should be considered for those students who are enrolled at Amity High School and wish to extend their educational growth or who may need additional avenues to complete the graduation requirements of the Amity School District.

Upward Bound Program

  1. Students must meet all requirements to be enrolled in Upward Bound Program:
  1. Approved by counselor of attending school;
  2. Meet financial requirement of Upward Bound Program;
  3. Parents cannot be college graduates;
  4. Meet attendance requirements of Upward Bound Program.
  1. Student must satisfactorily complete academic program and receive passing grades.
  2. Upward Bound office must submit a written evaluation of the enrolled student to the sending school.
  3. Following review and conference with Upward Bound staff, any student who has been enrolled and meets all prescribed requirements would be granted 1/2 elective credit.

Community College Programs

Students who enroll in community college programs to extend or meet graduation requirements would be granted high school credits under the following guidelines:

  1. Must have approval of school administration;
  2. One half credit for every three term hours or two semester hours of college credit would be awarded upon satisfactory completion.

Correspondence Program

Students enrolled at Amity High School may consider enrollment in district approved correspondence courses which meet high school curriculum requirements. This enrollment would require the following:

  1. Correspondence course must be offered by an accredited college or university;
  2. Student must receive approval from the school administration for enrollment;
  3. The course must meet the requirements of the Amity School District;
  4. Students must satisfactorily complete the course requirements and present official transcript of completion.

Other Alternative School Programs

In addition to the regular curriculum and courses offered, it is possible for students to obtain credit from the following activities if approved by the building principal:

  1. Outdoor school;
  2. Educational travel;
  3. Foreign Exchange Programs;
  4. Challenge tests;
  5. Military training;
  6. Independent study.

A maximum total of 6 credits may be earned in any combination leading towards the graduation requirements of Amity High School.
