Special Use of School Buses

Whenever a district provides public transportation for students attending public schools, students residing within the school district who attend private or parochial schools, where the private or parochial school is along or near the bus routes designated by the superintendent, may be provided transportation under the same conditions as regular district students.

It is the primary purpose of the district to provide home to school transportation. All athletic, activity, or field trips shall have secondary priorities when they conflict with the availability of such transportation. The district shall provide transportation to only those activities directly involving district approved programs.

Total student participation in various activities, either as participants or as spectators, contributes to the total effectiveness of any school. The Board approves of making spectator buses available provided requests have been made under district regulations and the request is made by the school administrator. A transportation fee may be charged for this type of transportation to recover up to actual cost of the trip.

Spectators may not ride on the bus that carries the participants to and from the activity, unless directly approved by the building administrator.

The Board may authorize use of the district’s buses as is allowed under Board policies, state law and Oregon Department of Education rules.
